According to
this website, today is National Sneak Some Zucchini on Your Neighbor's Porch Day. That being said, we have already established a Cherry House tradition in which random/obscure holidays are recognized (only if we approve them AND nothing more important is happening that day). For example, if there is someone we know who has a birthday that day, that wins. A roommate moving in? Wins. We do our best to celebrate these holidays, as well. And today, we went all out.

For whatever reason, this was much funnier than we anticipated. I mean, let's face it. Zucchini's are weird vegetables. They look weird, their name is weird...they even have a weird texture (maybe that last one's just me). Then there's the whole idea of sneaking them, at night, onto a friend's porch. Oh yes. We amended the rules slightly for our safety. You see, we live in the ghetto and, although a zucchini on your porch is probably considered a nice gesture in the world in general, I have a feeling that people in this neighborhood might not take as kindly to it.
Our first stop? Good friend number one. (We're protecting the innocent, here.) As we pull up to the house, I turned my lights out a few houses early and we quietly got out of the truck and giggled all the way to the porch. After we took a picture of us in the act, we dropped the zucchini and ran. Literally. Well, after taking another picture, of course.

Obligatory duck face, on my part.

Just a zucchini, you know, chillin'.
We sped off, giggling and feeling like we'd really accomplished something borderline illegal. Not that it is, but it kind of felt like it. Our next house was going to be a bit trickier, however. We know the occupants well and know that the front door has a tendency to remain slightly, if not completely, open. Obviously, that could provide some potential issues in the sneaky part of this adventure. Upon arrival, we drove past to see that, although the door was ajar, we would still be likely to complete our mission. Circling around and coming back, the same routine occurred. Turn off lights, quietly get out of car, sneak up to the house, take pictures.

We're proud of our sneakiness.

Welcome, zucchini.
We managed to keep the giggling to a minimum on this one because the door was indeed ajar, and getting caught in the act was simply not an option. We couldn't fail! The last house was also a tricky one because, not only did we know that the occupants were home, but we also knew that one would soon be leaving. We were afraid that we'd be in the middle of capturing our adventure and the front door would open, ruining our otherwise flawless zucchini sneaking record. In true sneaky zucchini style, however, we were completely successful, yet again.

We were apparently super excited about this particular zucchini drop.

Merry 'Sneak Some Zucchini On Your Neighbor's Porch Day'?
I must admit, we were a bit creepy and drove back by the first house to see if our present had been discovered. Alas, it had not, but we're hoping to hear some rumblings in the near future. For now, though, we'll lock this one away as one of our favorite holidays to celebrate and continue to revel in our success of an adventure.
